He vividly described the bombing and subsequent escape and evasion through occupied China. This included a lifesaving leg amputation for Ted Lawson, author of \u003cem\u003eThirty Seconds over Tokyo\u003c\/em\u003e. \u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e  Part of White’s story was published in \u003cem\u003eAtlantic\u003c\/em\u003e magazine circa 1944. The balance remained private.
