Crime And Punishment

Peter Lorre stars in this classic drama directed by Josef von Sternberg and based on the novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Criminology student Roderick Raskolnikov (Lorre) finds himself unable to support his family. While out walking one night, he encounters a prostitute by the name of Sonya (Marian Marsh) who he discovers has been mistreated by a pawnbroker. Seizing the opportunity, Roderick kills the pawnbroker in order to save young Sonya and, at the same time, save his struggling family. All is well until police officer Porphiry (Edward Arnold) shows up at his door and Roderick finds himself overcome with feelings of guilt.
