The film follows horseracing enthusiasts Major Arthur Hill (Radford) and Harold Temple (Hugh Griffith) as they form a syndicate of their friends to purchase a horse of their own. However, when they purchase the wrong horse, they are forced to change their plans and train their horse as a jumper that they decide to call 'The Galloping Major'.
