An American Tragedy Limited Edition

Josef von Sternberg directs this 1930s American drama starring Phillips Holmes, Sylvia Sidney and Frances Dee. Former hotel bellhop Clyde Griffiths (Holmes) is given a second chance in his turbulent life when his wealthy factory owner uncle, Samuel (Frederick Burton), offers Clyde a job in New York. It's not long before Clyde begins to excel in his new role, and attracts the attention of his colleague, Roberta (Sidney) despite the factory's strict protocol against romantic relationships between employees. By the time Roberta later realises she is pregnant, however, Clyde has already fallen for the beautiful young Sondra (Dee) and so concocts a wicked scheme to remove Roberta from his life...
