Ron Howard directs this drama based on the 1970 Apollo 13 mission. Manned by astronauts Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), the mission starts out as a routine space flight which generates little media interest. However, everything changes when an oxygen tank explosion cripples the ship and forces the crew to abort their planned moon landing immediately. Lovell and his crew battle to survive while their colleagues at Mission Control, led by Gene Kranz (Ed Harris) and Ken Mattingly (Gary Sinise), do everything they can to bring them home alive.
