After Rabbi Loew (Albert Steinruck) anticipates danger for the Jewish people of Prague he sets about finding a means of defending the community. However, when he creates a monster constructed from clay, the Golem (Wegener), it proves too difficult to control and soon the Rabbi's daughter, Miriam (Lyda Salmonova), is in danger from the very creation supposed to protect her and her people.
