Western directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda and Hume Cronyn. Charming crook Paris Pitman (Douglas) is serving time for robbery in Arizona Territorial Prison. Pitman is unable to get at the $500,000 he has stashed on the outside, but he has a cunning plan for his escape. However, newly-appointed Warden Lopeman (Fonda) has a plan of his own: he wants to use Pitman to rally and unify the other prisoners in the name of reform. Unfortunately for both Pitman and Lopeman, things do not go well.
