All three episodes of the British miniseries starring David Tennant as serial killer Dennis Nilsen. When a blocked drain leads to the discovery of human remains police arrest the only resident of the building, Dennis Nilsen. As Detective Chief Inspector Peter Jay (Daniel Mays) and Detective Inspector Steve McCusker (Barry Ward) question Dennis they are surprised when he casually admits to the killings. However, as Jay and McCusker attempt to get justice for his victims Nilsen becomes less co-operative and more difficult to deal with, seeming to lack any consideration for the significance of his actions. Meanwhile, crime writer Brian Masters (Jason Watkins) is intrigued to meet with Nilsen but DCI Jay has concerns that this will obstruct his team's ability to carry out their investigation.
