Russell Crowe and Al Pacino star in this drama co-written and directed by Michael Mann. '60 Minutes' producer Lowell Bergman (Pacino) contacts biochemist Jeffrey Wigand (Crowe), a former employee of tobacco giant Brown & Williamson, after being anonymously sent some damning documents regarding the company's activities. Wigand reveals that the company were aware their product contained dangerously high levels of nicotine - likely to cause cancer - and agrees to be interviewed for Bergman's programme. As a result of this, Wigand is placed under increasing pressure to keep quiet; he receives numerous death threats, he becomes the victim of a smear campaign and his marriage begins to disintegrate. With pressure mounting on all sides, both men begin to wonder if their efforts to speak the truth will be in vain. The cast also includes Christopher Plummer, Michael Gambon and Diane Venora.
