When Marcella leaves the Metropolitan Police to spend more time with her family, her life is turned upside down when her husband, Jason (Nicholas Pinnock), leaves her. In the third series Marcella attains a new identity as she works undercover in Belfast hoping to take down the Maguire crime family.
