Clive Donner directs this 1960s comedy starring Alan Bakes and Denholm Elliott. Jimmy Brewster (Bates) is a man with a burning ambition to do well in his life and he believes the only thing that is holding him back is his class. Thinking he has found a way to climb the social ladder, he befriends the upper class Charlie (Elliot) and uses him to get himself accepted in the higher social circles. His new manner enables him to advance at work and in love, but he soon realises that Charlie could become a risk to his plans. How far will Jimmy go to protect his new life? The cast also includes Millicent Martin, Harry Andrews and Angus MacKay.
