Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer and Kirk Douglas star in this classic film noir directed by Jacques Tourneur. Private detective Jeff Bailey (Mitchum) is hired by gambler Whit Sterling (Douglas) to find Sterling's girlfriend Kathie (Greer) after she shoots him and steals $40,000 from him. Bailey tracks her to Mexico but soon finds himself falling for her charms. When Kathie convinces Bailey that she is innocent, he tells Sterling that he has been unable to find her, unaware that he is becoming trapped in a tangled web of deceit, murder and blackmail. The cast also includes Virginia Huston, Paul Valentine and Steve Brodie.
