Gillo Pontecorvo directs this war drama which chronicles the Algerian fight for independence from France in the 1950s and '60s. Ali la Pointe (Brahim Hadjadj) becomes a leading member of the Algerian Front de Liberation Nationale and during the Battle of Algiers he leads a guerrilla insurgency against French colonial forces. Meanwhile, Colonel Philippe Mathieu (Jean Martin) is tasked with capturing Ali and doing whatever it takes to end the uprising. As the violence escalates, the suffering of those caught in the crossfire intensifies.
