Ugetsu

Japanese fantasy action directed by Kenji Mizoguchi which follows two brothers who risk their families and their lives in their pursuit of riches and renown. In 16th century Japan, rival warlords battle for supremacy. Impoverished potter Genjuro (Masayuki Mori) leaves his wife Miyagi (Kinuyo Tanaka) and their son to take his wares to the city to sell, despite Miyagi's fears for their safety with an army so close by. His brother Tobei (Sakae Ozawa), who dreams of becoming a samurai, also leaves his wife Ohama (Mitsuko Mito) and accompanies Genjuro. While Genjuro is consumed with his desire for gold and is seduced by the mysterious Lady Wakasa (Machiko Kyô), Tobei plots to achieve his dream and Miyagi and Ohama are forced to pay the price for their husbands' choices.
